Enigma 2000 Control list description

Backward music / whales / feedback.     (original entry) Generally considered to be a result of unintentional cross mixing where RF / Audio circuits are co-located as the effect is being noticed on many different circuits with different equipment, ruling out a single user or set-up as the culprit. A close association with Link-11 TX's have been remarked upon by some monitors and this aspect is receiving further attention.2005/2006 (updated entry, July 2006) (Amid an ongoing debate with much conflicting opinion) Now considered to possibly be a form of  "COMPEX" type signal as the ongoing investigation has isolated multiple voice traffic, so far unintelligible, within the signal, making it man-made rather than random, further enhancing the possibility of a LINK-11 connection.  Also suspected is some form of commonality, structural rather than relational, with the XP series signals and in turn the X06 series. The XP's & Link-11 "possible" connections are very interesting as they are "conflicting signals" as regards origins.  Further opinion has been given that there could be an element of "Chaos encryption"  involved.

Many theories have been suggested as to what exactly XM Whales is, as it often has a slightly different sound each time it broadcasts and seems generally to be random noise. On August 30th 2011 we have observed and recorded scrambled voice transmissions breaking the constant signal of XM. Thought most XM broadcasts have no scrambled voice and are purely XM noise, this suggests that XM is in fact idling and keeping the freq clean of any other activity by effectively jamming the frequency from outside use. XM transmissions can last for days at a time and are usually active for atleast some hours. Gwraspe.

Note from Gwraspe:

It seems there are 2 distinct broadcasts that are both being classed as XM. The original XM, nicknamed 'backwards music station', is pure feedback and does not carry any data or voice encryption it seems. The other station actually is voice scrambling and idling. Currently we are in the process of further analyzing and discussing these two different signals in the hope that we can bring about accurate information on them both. Interesting to note is that both stations transmit for considerable periods of time, though the feedback station often lasts far longer. As I am typing this I am listening to the feedback XM station which has been active for around 48 hours non-stop now. Below are exampled of each:
